Winter

I love the slowness Winter brings.  The unexpected snow day that allows us to stay home, pull out the games, and build a fire.  And even the bouts of sickness (as long as they don't string on) provide days to sit back and rest.  I have to remind myself of this as we get tired of the bitter cold.  I do love and appreciate the rhythm of seasons here.

Snow Day 1 - this was a fun surprise.  We were expected a dusting to an inch, and got almost 5.

They were so excited to get outside that ALL three were able to get their snow gear on by themselves.  This was the most exciting part of the day for me ;).

We discovered the fun snowball maker Will received from a classmate for his birthday.  Super fun!

So excited.

My helpful shovelers.

Hot cocoa by the fire.

We discovered a fun sledding hill in our side yard.

Awesome.

A few good wipeouts - very necessary.

Rosy snow day cheeks.

Our boys had SO MUCH FUN at this AU basketball game with their Westbrook friends.  And I had fun bringing them back to where I used to work!

Andrew with his buddy Yorick.  It was a double over time, extremely exciting game.  And they cheered their hearts out.

Dave had a weekend in Seattle, and enjoyed some time with Uncle Josh.

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery and tasting room!

A week later I got to host (mostly just provide the location) for dear Christie's bridal shower.

Her family did an amazing job with the food - a sound of music "favorite things" themed day.

This mashed potato bar was genius.  And ironically Christie and Mike first met right at this very table.

Meanwhile, Daddy and the boys had a fun geo-caching adventure.

MLK weekend - we met friends to burn off some energy.

This foam pit.  Amazing.

A bowling date with my boys.

Seahawk fever - we enjoyed their run to the Super Bowl.
It's still too painful to talk about the end of that game.

Caden and Daddy made this space needle in their honor, out of materials in our recycling bun.  A fun Winter Saturday project ;).

There have been several forts like this that have taken over our Living Room this Winter.

A Saturday morning glimpse - including the regular mounds of laundry in the background.

A long awaited and very appreciated date night to Brasserie Beck in DC.

Snow Day 2!
Not as much, but fun none the less.

The warmer temps meant this snow was perfect for packing - we attempted our first snow fort with these blocks!  We made an impressive U, but need more snow for the full fort.

Hat hair.

And hot cocoa by the fire.

Best ever.

Andrew dressed up as Babe Ruth for a school project.

Our first ever Pinewood Derby!

Caden was the first place finisher for his pack (1st grade), and Andrew was third for his.  Being rookies, we/they were pretty excited.

That night we had the blue/gold banquet.  I had to make a "camping" themed cake, so found this super easy idea on Pinterest.  I told Dave there would likely be several cakes like it, and I was right - I think there were 4!  Thank you Pinterest.

Caden did a great job leading his pack in the opening ceremonies that night.

Valentines weekend pizza/movie night.
The adults (two fun couples/new neighbors) enjoyed a nicer meal in the other room - this was such a fun night!  Sad we didn't grab pictures.
